Does it feel like you don’t recognize yourself any more?
You may be in peri-menopause, just starting to experience some of the “symptoms”: hot flashes, night sweats, brain fog, or you may be post-menopausal, feeling a bit lost, wondering what happened to your drive and energy. Or, you could be in the group of women who don’t experience some of the physical symptoms, but you are questioning what you want the next part of your life to look like.
Chances are, you didn’t have a whole lot of information about what this part of your life was going to feel like; there isn’t a one-size-fits-all plan of action or menopausal map. While menopause is becoming less stigmatized, you might still have a lot of questions. Your doctor may help with your understanding of what’s happening physically yet understanding the emotional part of your journey is unchartered territory.
You may feel:
easily irritated tired weepy
annoyed anxious confused
angry sad frustrated
So many feelings! You’re replaying scenarios from the past, remembering when things seemed easier.
You may be:
struggling in relationships
questioning others’ words, behaviors, motives
reacting with rage or snippiness you’re not used to
wanting deeper connections, yet also wanting to be left alone
worrying about other health concerns
grappling with growing older, mortality, existential questions
It seems like your life is unraveling as you experience mood swings, absorb cultural messages about aging, grieve your child-bearing years, or figure out how to plan for your “third act”.
What you hope for is peace and relief.
Life doesn’t have to feel this way.
You want to get past the physical discomforts and emotional upheaval of this time in your life so you can focus on the people, ideas and future plans for yourself that really matter. You want to process what has happened so far in your life, make peace with the past, address negative patterns that have gotten in the way and learn not just how to cope, but how to flourish and thrive.
Together, we’ll work on:
Identifying the problems with aging, change, and self-esteem that you’re facing
Validating your feelings about this time in your life
Engaging in discussion about what you want and need
Exploring ways to get the support and confidence you deserve
Counseling for Mental Health in Menopause can help you:
Normalize what you are experiencing
Pay attention to issues you can’t ignore any longer
See opportunity in this season
Reflect on what really matters to you
Recalibrate your next steps forward
Embrace the woman that you are becoming
You can learn to grow & bloom through it.
